How To Clean Up 3D Printed Parts

How to smooth the PLA guide is usually achieved by grinding 3D-printed parts, but it is important not to be tempted to use a powered sander. If you sand PLA or other materials at low temperatures, you can save the hassle of printing with higher quality filaments and come out clean. 


Once the 3D object has more or less reached the desired shape, the final finish should be used for its final shape. If you want a really smooth surface as above, we recommend not skipping this step, but if so, we recommend the following grits when grinding your 3D printing. 


The sanding should always be done in a small circular motion, and a manual rotation machine is preferable to the bed sand, but you can also sanding with your hands. 


After sanding with high-grain sandpaper, you can spray a thin, even layer of rust oleum onto the print to finish with a high-grain sandpaper. After sanding, the 3D object can optionally be provided with the desired finish for polishing, varnishing or varnishing. The third option for finishing a PLA print is to use a primer or spray paint in combination with the sanding technique. 


It sounds like a lot of work, but don't worry, the material dries in just a few minutes and fills up on the surface of the print at a small rate. Each layer lasts only a few minutes, so your print already has a nice finish. 


When grinding a PLA print, wetted glass paper cools down the surface, lubricates it and cools it down even more. If you use wet or dry paper to sand your 3D printing (as opposed to the beige effect), it is best to behave well, because if you sand quickly, the heat can build up and affect the smooth surface you want to achieve. 


If you want your 3D printing to be finished like a mirror, you need to build up to 3000%, but it feels really smooth and polishes beautifully and evenly. The last and funniest part will be when you actually start polishing your PLA print. This is not the best way to smooth out the high temperatures of 3D printing material. 


Layers of sandpaper in increments don't feel like you're making great strides, but the end result looks great after polishing. 


Apply to the 3D printing surface and focus on getting a flat surface before moving up to 600 grits. The sandpaper scrapes off the XTC and 3 D layer, thus rubbing the polish onto the surface and then again. 

Once you have finished sanding, make sure that you thoroughly clean the part with soap and water and then dry it with compressed air before moving on to the next step. The lacquered PLA part has become oblac and also the inner pockets have been sanded badly and folded. The sanding and cleaning of the cleaned PLA parts is coated with XTC and 3D so that the paint is sanded and dried. 


To keep the sandpaper clean, it is recommended to sand the print from start to finish to prevent friction and heat build-up - and not to damage the part. After sanding the gradation, you can clean your pressure by preventing dust accumulation and cake. 


FDM parts can be sanded with up to 5000 grit for a smooth, glossy finish, but no more than 500 grit for a more polished finish. 


Typically, it is better to sand the part by hand by lightly grinding the surface with a low grain sandpaper and gradually increasing the grade of the sandpaper at least four times in order to finish it with fine grain sandpaper. Areas of pressure that have contact points or support structures are significantly less labor intensive, but still require grinding to remove layers and lines to ensure uniformity. 


Be sure to use a light touch in order not to damage small details or affect the dimensional accuracy of the part. Be careful when using a lighter touch to avoid damaging smaller details such as contact points, support structures and other parts that are affected by the dimensional accuracy of your parts. 


If you have a perfectly even surface on which you want to sand, a balsa wood sanding block will keep the uneven pressure off your fingers without compromising the surface. Start with a clean part and gradually move towards the fine-grained sandpaper, knocking out obvious edges and defects. If you blow the sandpaper in the air over the surfaces of the shop, you can check your progress. 


Once you have finished sanding and are looking for the finishing touch, you can polish the part with a plastic polishing compound. 


You only need up to 600 grit for painting, but if you want a mirror - how finishing can affect your tolerances - you can sand down the pressure to 500 grit before polishing it. Once your pressure is properly sanded, it can be primed and polished with an aerosol primer. This ensures uniform coverage and ensures that details on the prints are not hidden before starting to paint.
