MINDWELL is engaged in CNC machining services. There are many types of CNC lathes of different sizes. The types of modern machine models are almost limitless. Some CNC machines are small enough to be installed on a workbench, while others are large enough to be accommodated by constructing special workshops. Some CNC machine tools are very simple, while others are very complicated in structure and operation. What are the basic processing methods in mechanical processing? What are the characteristics of different processing methods?

Regardless of whether CNC machine tools are large or small, simple or complex, they can be divided into five categories. These five categories are the five basic methods of metal forming. CNC precision machining includes drilling, turning and boring, milling, grinding, and shaping. The characteristics of these treatment methods are as follows:

1. Drilling

Drilling is the process of drilling holes in solid metal using a rotating drill called a twist drill. The CNC lathe used for drilling is called a drilling machine. There are also many types and specifications of drilling machines. In addition to drilling, the drilling machine can also perform other processing. When drilling, the workpiece is clamped and fixed. The drill bit rotates while drilling into the workpiece.

2. Turning

Ordinary lathes are the most commonly used machines for turning parts. Turning is the removal of metal from the workpiece. When the workpiece rotates, the tool cuts along the workpiece.

Boring is a method of enlarging or further processing a hole drilled or cast in a metal workpiece. Boring on a lathe is done by a single-edged tool, which rotates while feeding the workpiece.

3. Milling

Milling is the process of cutting metal with a rotating tool. This kind of tool has multiple cutting edges and is called a milling cutter.

4. Grinding

Grinding is a method of removing metal using a grinding wheel called a grinding wheel. The workpiece is finished by grinding. After grinding, the size of the workpiece is accurate and smooth. When grinding a round workpiece, the workpiece rotates and feeds the rotating grinding wheel. When grinding a flat workpiece, the workpiece moves back and forth while the grinding wheel rotates. The grinding process is to finish machining the hard workpiece after heat treatment to achieve precise dimensions.

5. Plastic processing

Use single-edged knives for gouging, gantry cutting and grooving precision planes. When machining with a forming machine, the workpiece feeds the tool, and the tool moves back and forth on the workpiece. When using gantry cutting, the tool cuts into or feeds the workpiece, and the workpiece moves back and forth under the tool.

6. Slotting processing is similar to shape processing. The slotting machine is actually a vertical forming machine, mainly used to cut certain types of gears.

Broaching machines can be classified as gantry planers. The broaching knife has multiple teeth. Broaching machines can be used for internal processing, such as square holes, and also for external processing, processing planes or specific shapes.
