What are the advantages and disadvantages of aluminum die casting

Aluminum die casting is a part of pressure casting. It is a pressure casting mechanical die casting machine that uses a casting mold. The aluminum or aluminum alloy heated to a liquid state is poured into the inlet of the die casting machine. After die casting, the die casting is restricted The shape and size of aluminum parts or aluminum alloy parts, such parts are usually called aluminum die-casting.

   Advantages

  (1) Metal parts with complex shapes, clear outlines and thin-walled deep cavities can be manufactured. Because molten metal maintains high fluidity under high pressure and high speed, it is possible to obtain metal parts that are difficult to process with other processes.

  (2) The dimensional accuracy of the die-casting parts is high, reaching IT11-13, sometimes reaching IT9, the surface roughness is Ra0.8-3.2um, and the interchangeability is good.

  (3) The material utilization rate is high. Due to the high precision of die-casting parts, only a small amount of mechanical processing can be used for assembly, and some die-casting parts can be directly assembled and used. The material utilization rate is about 60%-80%, and the blank utilization rate reaches 90%.

  (4) High production efficiency. Due to high-speed filling and short filling time, the metal industry solidifies quickly and the die casting operation cycle speed is fast. Among various casting processes, the die casting method has the highest productivity and is suitable for mass production.

  (5) Easy to use inlays. It is easy to set the positioning mechanism on the die-casting mold, which is convenient for insert-molding inlays and meets the local special performance requirements of die-casting parts.

   Disadvantages

  (1) Due to the high-speed filling and rapid cooling, the gas in the cavity is too late to discharge, resulting in die castings often having pores and oxidized inclusions, which reduces the quality of the die castings. Due to the expansion of the gas in the pores at high temperatures, the surface of the die castings will bubble, so the die castings with pores cannot be heat treated.

  (2) The die-casting machine and die-casting mold are expensive and not suitable for small batch production.

  (3) The size of die castings is restricted. Due to the limitations of die-casting machine clamping force and die size, large die-casting parts cannot be die-casted.

  (4) The types of die-cast alloys are restricted. Due to the temperature limitation of die-casting molds, it is currently mainly used for die-casting zinc alloys, aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys and copper alloys.
